Gut loving this Valentine's Day!

The countdown to Valentine’s Day is on, and as much as we’re excited to spend time with our loved-ones, it’s also about loving yourself…and your gut!

It’s very important to focus on gut health, as it is said to be connected to so many other areas of our health and wellbeing, most prominently being your mental health. So when you get butterflies in your stomach on a first date, or feel nauseous about something stressful in your life, it’s because of this axis.

Why exactly is bone broth so good for gut health? Osius is full of amino acids, such as glutamine, which studies suggest support digestion and help heal the intestinal barrier. It is also high in gelatine and glycine, which is said to reduce inflammation and protect against gastric ulcers.

Collagen is another key component of bone broth that supports gut health - if you have “leaky gut syndrome”, collagen is said to strengthen the lining of the cell wall, which should decrease the severity of the condition, and improve overall mental and physical health.

There’s lots of easy ways to look after your gut - a few of our top tips include:

  • Stay hydrated - carrying a reusable water bottle around is both eco-friendly and gut-friendly!
  • Plan daily exercise, as physical activity gets your colon moving, leading to more regular bowel movements.
  • Chew your food thoroughly, so it can be digested easier. We also recommend smaller, more frequent meals.
  • And make sure these foods are healthy - our website is full of fresh recipes. Some of our favourite gut-loving foods are ginger, garlic, yoghurt, bananas, peas, olive oil and almonds.
  • Limit your consumption of alcohol and caffeine - a hot mug of bone broth makes a great alternative.
  • Manage your stress with the likes of yoga and meditation, which can be found in our wellness plan.

Maintaining gut health doesn’t mean you have to miss out on treats though - stay tuned for some of our favourite gut loving meals and little extras this Valentine’s Day, that can be made with our range of broths.
